Export your bank file and general ledger from Sage 50 in five steps

The free Close Check needs two files for the same month: your bank file and your general ledger. Here is how to get each one.

    File 1: your bank file

This one comes from your bank, not from Sage 50. Do it once for each account and each credit card you want checked.

    1. Sign in to your bank's online business banking, for example AccèsD Affaires at Desjardins.
    2. Open the account or card, then its transaction history.
    3. Set the dates to one full month: the same month you will export from Sage 50.
    4. Choose to download or export the transactions, as CSV or OFX.
    5. Save the file where you will find it again, with the account and the month in its name.

File 2: your general ledger from Sage 50

In Sage 50 Canadian Edition (Pro, Premium or Quantum), the general ledger is the Transactions by Account report.

    1. In the Home window, open the Report Centre. Sage 50 help for this step
    2. Choose Financials, then Transactions by Account. With accounting terms turned on, Sage 50 calls it the General Ledger report. Sage 50 help for this step
    3. Click Modify this report, and enter the same month as your bank file in Start and Finish. Sage 50 help for this step
    4. On the report viewer's toolbar, click Export. Sage 50 help for this step
    5. Choose where to save it, name it, pick .csv in the Save as type list, and save. Sage 50 help for this step

    What not to send

    • Your bank sign-in, your Sage 50 password, or any other password.
    • A Sage 50 backup or the company data file. The check reads your exports, not your company file.
    • Payroll reports or employee records. They are not needed for the check.

Then add both files to the free Close Check

The upload is on the Adwaizer Close page.

Menu names follow Sage's help for Sage 50 Canadian Edition and can differ slightly between versions. If a step does not match your screen, Sage's page linked beside it shows the current one.
